Daniel Sancho has been released from Koh Samui prison for the second time since he was detained in early August. Rodolfo Sancho’s son confessed to having murdered and dismembered Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta in Thailand. Since then, the investigation has been open until all evidence has been collected.

The Prosecutor’s Office presented a report to the court last Wednesday accusing the chef of premeditated murder, concealment of the body and destruction of other people’s documentation. Charges for which the police assured a few weeks ago that they would request the death penalty for the accused, which could be commuted to life imprisonment if she collaborates during the process.

After the delivery of the final report, the court called Daniel Sancho this Thursday to hold a hearing in which the charges would be read so that the accused could accept or deny them. However, it has had to be postponed until next November 13. “Daniel Sancho today refused to testify because he did not have a translator,” said a reporter from Vamos a ver.

And that’s not all. When he arrived at the court, around 8:20 in the morning, the accused still did not have a Thai lawyer, as required by the law of the Asian country. For this reason, the court itself has provided him with an ex-officio lawyer: Krit Sudthanom.

According to the journalist from the aforementioned program, although Sancho’s defense has sought a lawyer, they have not been able to find the right one. “They preferred to wait for a court-appointed lawyer to be assigned to see if he would convince them. This lawyer is the president of Koh Samui’s lawyers,” she said.

Sudthanom has not yet been able to speak to his client, and will not be able to do so until after the postponed hearing. “My visit will take place after November 13, because until we have a translator, they refuse to speak,” said the lawyer.

But they were not the only statements by the lawyer. According to Krit Sudthanom, “Rodolfo and Daniel have been talking for a while and have had several conversations.” It is the first time since the accused has been in prison that father and son have been able to see each other without the glass screen that separates them during their visits.

The actor arrived at the courthouse “tense and nervous.” And there was no turning back when it came to his son’s final report. “Good, thank you. Very good, very good. Thank you,” were Rodolfo Sancho’s only words upon his arrival. Even so, he has only stayed inside for a few minutes, due to Daniel Sancho’s refusal to continue without a translator.
