It will soon be two months since Daniel Sancho confessed to the Thai authorities that he had murdered surgeon Edwin Arrieta and that he had dismembered his body in the hotel room they shared on the island of Koh Phangan.

Since last August 7, Sancho has been in prison awaiting trial. After finishing an initial investigation, the Thai police explained that there was more than enough evidence to ensure that it was a case of premeditated murder and that they would request the death penalty for Daniel Sancho. However, such a measure has not been carried out in the Asian country for a long time, so it is most likely that Arrieta’s alleged murderer will be tried with a life sentence.

In the midst of the endless news that comes out daily about the high-profile crime, the controversial statements of his parents and lawyers and the television talk shows that address the subject every afternoon, a very relevant piece of information has been revealed in Sancho’s trial. . The young man has been ‘on the verge’ of being extradited to Spain because he has another legal case open in our country, something that will ultimately not happen due to the decision of the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

On September 8, the defense of the accused presented a letter to the corresponding body to request his extradition and delivery to the Spanish authorities, since he must answer for a crime of injuries that he committed in the month of November 2019 in the capital. Madrid.

According to the newspaper ABC, on November 9, 2019, Rodolfo Sancho’s son got into a taxi on José Abascal Street in Madrid, in the Chamberí neighborhood, and ignored the line of people who were waiting to catch one. of these vehicles. When the driver told the young man that he had not respected the order and that he had to get off, the driver punched him in the head, causing several injuries: a broken tooth and a gap in his head.

On November 30, 2021, the Investigative Court No. 21 of Madrid issued an order to open an oral trial, which was notified to the accused on January 18, 2022, but the date for the start of the oral hearing was pending.

The Madrid Prosecutor’s Office has decided not to request extradition after concluding that there are no requirements to request it. In the official letter, the public body defends that there are alternative ways to declare from Thailand.

It should be noted that the date on which the oral hearing for the crime of injuries will take place has already been set, which will take place on November 7. Sancho will testify electronically by videoconference.
