Benidorm Fest 2024 is now history and has left many unforgettable moments, both positive and negative. The sound errors in the first semifinal, the emotional performances of Angy Fernández, the technical error that harmed Almácor in the final and Nebulossa’s victory with Zorra. Even so, the week of musical screenings continues to leave debate and conversations about the candidates.

One of the latest has taken place in TardeAR, following a discussion between Xavier Sardà and Mario Vaquerizo. The program presented by Ana Rosa Quintana has already addressed the issue during the broadcast this past Monday, but Tuesday’s program has left a moment of controversy. This has been starred by the singer of Nancys Rubias, who has referred to Jorge González as a “gypsy” when he pointed out his favorite performances.

“The Eurovision Song Contest is about entertaining people, with a song that is catchy beyond seeking connotations. We are not making a protest song, it is a pop song that makes you have a good time and is the spirit that Eurovision should have. My favorite was Zorra, the gypsy one, and the Angy Fernández one,” expressed Vaquerizo, in reference to his opinion about the winner, which he gave last Sunday on the Fiesta program.

“I don’t want Eurovision to become a platform for denunciation. I believe that Eurovision has always been entertainment. And pop and music is about entertaining like I am, I am a wonderful entertainer. I like to entertain,” the singer insisted in his previous intervention. Despite this, the criticism directed at Zorra continued in TardeAR from Beatriz Archidona, who pointed out that Maria Bas did not sing very well.

“You have to have your own style. Many times there are limitations like this girl who doesn’t have a great voice but she becomes a style and the song is pleasant,” Vaquerizo responded. Likewise, the man from Madrid surprised his co-stars by confessing that he had been interested in participating in the Benidorm Fest. It was ultimately not one of the 800 songs that were recorded, before making the cut of 16 out of the two semi-finals.

“Thanks to the Benidorm Fest, interest in Eurovision has recovered a little because lately it is true that it was a festival that went unnoticed and now everyone wants to be in Eurovision. I was going to show up this year. The thing is that I am very professional. And Eurovision implies a very great responsibility but I am in favor because Nancyrubism has triumphed in Eurovision, recorded music and live voice, which is what we have been doing for many years,” he pointed out.
