Today in Spain there is no talk of anything other than the 2023 Grammy Awards. The musical competition was held yesterday in Seville and brought together hundreds of famous artists from all over the planet. It should be noted that this is the first time that this gala leaves the United States, so there was a lot of expectation about how it would work in our country.
The night was marked by the triumph of female artists: the most awarded were Shakira, Natalia Lafourcade and Karol G, who won three awards each.
As for the performances, various artists left their mark on the Sevillian stadium: Maluma, Alejandro Sanz, Rauw Alejandro, Edgar Barrera, Camilo, Shakira, Carín León, Pablo Alborán, etc. However, the networks have ruled that the performance that the public liked the most was that of the Catalan singer Rosalía.
The artist from San Cugat del Vallés performed a sensitive and beautiful version of Se nos roto el amor, one of the best-known songs by the legendary Rocío Jurado. Accompanied by a group of flamenco guitars and several musicians on stage, the singer of Motomami, Como un G, Beso, Catalina or El Pañuelo pierced the hearts of listeners and closed the mouths of all those who question her international popularity.
Another of the great protagonists of yesterday’s event was the legendary Malaga actor Antonio Banderas. The artist attended the musical event to receive the 2023 Presidential Award for his “numerous contributions as a global ambassador of Latin cultural heritage.”
During his speech, the Andalusian was moved and confessed to being very grateful for the recognition, as well as dedicated some very heartfelt words to his autonomous community: “They have been right in thinking about this land: it is a fertile land for artistic creation. It is the land of Federico García Lorca, Machado, Velázquez, Pablo Picasso… Paco de Lucía and many others. Andalusia is a pentagram on which you can write the song of your life.”
After the intervention of the actor from films such as Pain and Glory, The House of the Spirits, The Legend of the Fox or Frida, thousands of Andalusian followers recorded on social networks how proud they were that a leading public figure dedicated his speech in a space as important as the Latin Grammy to his homeland.
Although many have celebrated Banderas’ words and congratulated him for never forgetting his origins, many users on social networks have highlighted that the actor’s list of Spanish artists did not include women.
”Curious that he does not remember any Andalusian woman in his speech”, ”He has not mentioned any Andalusian woman…” or ”It’s called misogyny” are some of the messages that can be read in the different microblogging platforms.
