Céline Dion has decided to openly share her experience with stiff person syndrome (SPR), a rare disease that has kept her away from the stage since December 2022. In an exclusive interview with ‘Vogue France’, the renowned singer revealed what it has been like to face this difficult situation. With a photo shoot directed by stylist Law Roach, Dion appears elegant and brave as she addresses the challenges she has faced since her diagnosis.

“Living from day to day is very hard morally. It is hard, I am working very hard and tomorrow will be even harder. However, there is one thing that will never stop, and that is the will. The passion. The dreams. The determination,” said Céline Dion about her daily fight against the disease. Despite the obstacles, her determination and hope remain strong as she undergoes physical and vocal therapies five days a week.

The singer recognizes the importance of having access to good doctors and treatments to deal with MRS. “People who suffer from RPD may not have the luck or the means to have good doctors and good treatments. I have those means, I have that gift. And what’s more, I have that strength within me. I know that nothing is going to stop me,” said Dion, highlighting his privileged situation in the midst of the difficult reality faced by other patients with this disease.

Céline Dion also shared how her family, especially her three children, have supported her during this treatment and rehabilitation process. “I’m doing well, but it requires a lot of work. It’s going day by day. I hope we find a miracle, a way to cure it thanks to scientific research, but I have to learn to live with it,” Dion explained about his state of health and his hopes for the future.

Despite her courage and good disposition in the face of this adversity, CélineDion admitted that she suffered a strong initial shock upon receiving the diagnosis. “Now I have to learn to live with it and stop questioning myself. I started asking myself: ‘Why me? What happened to me? What have I done? Am I responsible?’. Life doesn’t give you answers. You just have to live it,” the singer reflected on her process of acceptance and adaptation to the disease.

In addition to facing her illness with determination, Céline Dion announced a new project: the release of her documentary ‘I Am: Céline Dion’, which will explore her career and her fight against MRS. This documentary, directed by Irene Taylor and distributed by Prime Video, will offer viewers an intimate view of the life and legacy of the iconic singer as she continues her journey of improvement and hope.
