Inevitably, when we think of the oldest and most prominent artists in the music industry, we think of Cher. The performer of songs like Believe and If I Could Turn Back Time has been in the world of music for more than 50 years, achieving success after success. In recent days, the ‘diva’ has been the protagonist of several headlines after requesting guardianship of her son Elijah Blue Allman, 47, who fell into the world of addictions. Now this request has been temporarily denied.
As we said, Cher’s career is one of the most successful, however, in her personal life not everything is so pretty. And there is something that worries her a lot: the well-being of her children. So it’s no surprise that she’s willing to do anything for them, especially her son Elijah. The 47-year-old musician wanted to follow in his mother’s footsteps in the industry, and he managed to dedicate himself to it. However, being a guitarist and alternative rock musician, he also fell into the world of addictions.
Before the end of 2023, it came to light that Cher had decided to ask for guardianship and thus be the only person who could manage her assets. With this, she intended to ensure the good of her son, since she sees it as impossible for her to “manage her own resources” due to the problem she is going through, as revealed by the Page Six portal. In the documents to which the media had access, the singer claimed that it has been impossible for her to “discuss the preferences” of her son with the “appointment of a temporary caregiver” due to his “current physical and mental health problems.”
On the other hand, he made clear his concern about the belief that any money that came into the musician’s possession “would immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah without assets to support himself and putting his life in danger.” Now, the artist’s request to control her son’s assets has been temporarily denied, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The renowned media assures that Judge Jessica Uzcategui “was not convinced” to appoint Cher, 77, as temporary guardian because her lawyers notified Allman “in the best of cases less than 24 hours in advance” of the action judicial and refused to share confidential information with him about the case. Uzcategui has set a hearing for January 29 and has ordered Cher’s lawyers to share all confidential information they have with her son’s legal team a week beforehand.
Although Cher claimed that Allman, 47, had disappeared, he appeared at Friday’s brief hearing and was accompanied by his wife, Marieangela King, with whom he recently reconciled. The artist assured that “a guardianship of the estate is not necessary at this time, there is no reason for the appointment of a guardian, the proposed guardian has no right of priority and the proposed guardian is not suitable to perform his duties.”
“I have struggled with addiction and spent money in ways that have not always been the most responsible,” he acknowledged, but insisted that he is under the care of a doctor and is “attending AA meetings.” “I recently passed a drug test and am willing to submit to future drug tests,” she said. “I have been clean and sober from illicit substances for more than 90 days and I am fully capable and committed to managing the money I receive quarterly from the trust my late father left me,” he stated. Now we will have to wait to find out how events continue to develop.
