Chance the Rapper said he rented South Side theater for free 'Get Out' screenings

Grammy winner Chance the Rapper said he rented a South Side theater Sunday so Chicagoans could see the new movie "Get Out" for free.

"I bought all the tickets to #GetOut at Chatham Theatre on 87th. Just pull up with ID and enjoy the movie," tweeted the rapper, who was raised on the South Side and won three Grammys two weeks ago.

"Get Out," released Friday, is a "social thriller" directed by Second City alumnus Jordan Peele. Allison Williams and Daniel Kaluuya star.

Sunday showtimes at the Studio Movie Grill Chatham for 8 p.m., 10:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. were sold out, according to the theater website.

Chance’s move comes weeks after Taraji P. Henson, who films the Fox drama "Empire" in Chicago, rented a Southwest Side theater so fans could see her movie "Hidden Figures" for free.
