Three weeks ago, Pedro Piqueras put an end to his time as head of Informativos Telecinco after a 51-year career, 17 in that same space. A goodbye that, despite being something expected, has been a hard blow for many viewers. Even so, after taking over from him, Carlos Franganillo is prepared to take the reins, given his experience at the head of TVE’s Newscast.
“My place will be taken by a journalist with whom I have been lucky enough to share coverage of elections, investitures, volcanoes, earthquakes… his name is Carlos Franganillo (…) he joins this Telecinco team where he will also find great colleagues,” said the presenter in his farewell.
And their passion for work has made both presenters care for each other and only have good words for each other. “I have a very special affection for Pedro, personal and professional,” Franganillo said in his interview on La Mirada Crítica, hours before its premiere on Telecinco.
For the journalist, Pedro Piqueras has carved out “over so many decades” a career “based on his own and very independent perspective. Something that, apparently, has made him become one of his references when it comes to working in what you like most.
The new Informativos presenter has assured that Piqueras has “that talent” to emerge unscathed from this “difficult” task in an environment that has become very politicized and heated. Even so, if there is something he likes about the presenter, it is that “in short, he is a person who is a first-class guy.”
Although Pedro has decided to stop presenting, it seems that his retirement will not be completely complete. And he will be in charge of teaching a Master’s degree, reflecting the years of his career. And, as Franganillo says, he “surely still has many things to do.”
But it is not the only thing that the new presenter has explained in his interview. Among other things, he has put on the table the technological advances that the new set will have. “With the most advanced technology to explain things better,” he said. “The bet is very strong. The study, beyond the technology, I think has very good taste,” he added.
Likewise, he has assured that he is very excited and that he has been working “behind the scenes” for several weeks to make its premiere successful. “It is true that any task of this type is a very complex task, with many people behind it, and I have found a first division team, with a lot of desire, and that is going to work in my favor,” he said.
