Candela Peña's peculiar failure when talking about 'The Asunta case': 'Scary'

On April 26, Netflix premiered its new series ”based on real events”: The Asunta Case. This project is based on the murder of little Asunta Basterra Porto at the hands of her parents, Alfonso Basterra and Rosario Porto.

The crime, committed in 2013, caused a great impact on our society. After a long and difficult judicial procedure in which the parents of the deceased did not admit responsibility for the events, both were sentenced to 18 years in prison. While Basterra remains locked up today, Porto committed suicide in 2020 in his cell.

The series premiered three days ago and has already become an audiovisual phenomenon in our country and outside our borders. Among other reasons, the triumph can be justified by the great performance of its protagonists: Candela Peña and Tristán Ulloa, who play Porto and Basterra respectively.

The actress, known for some works such as Rosa’s Wedding, Hierro or I Give You My Eyes, has received countless favorable reviews of her work, and thousands of users on social networks have been left speechless when they see that she is almost identical to the woman who ended the life of little Asunta. In addition to anonymous people, there are also many public figures who have highlighted her role in the series: Paula Echevarría, Dulceida, María Valero, Sara Carbonero, etc.

It should be noted that Peña, unlike many other artists, is personally responding to many of the comments on the internet, both good and bad. The number of messages is so large that she could not avoid making a mistake that has not gone unnoticed by fans.

In response to the unfortunate comment from a viewer of the series who compares the physique of the murdered girl and that of the actress, Candela responded forcefully: ”Asusta is a 13-year-old girl of Chinese origin. Thank you”.

As you can see, the Catalan artist has made a mistake when writing the little girl’s name and has put ‘Asusta’ (from the verb to scare) instead of Asunta. Although it is a small nonsense, she has caused a lot of talk on Elon Musk’s platform.

Given the wave of memes, comments and publications that his ruling has given rise to, Candela Peña has decided to write a message on the same social network to record that it was a simple mistake.

”Whoever has a mouth makes mistakes and whoever has fingers changes ‘n’ for ‘s”’, declared the actress, unleashing a shower of messages of support and congratulations for her great role in the Netflix fiction.
