Sad day for the UK. The Scottish BBC has confirmed the death of one of its best-known faces: a young man called Nick Sheridan who worked as a reporter for the television network.

Gary Smith, director of news and current affairs of the channel where Nick worked for a time, has spread a message on social networks that has moved British society: “We are devastated to hear the news that our colleague and friend, Nick Sheridan , has died. Nick has been a wonderful companion. He was an enormously talented journalist, presenter and writer, and one of those few people who brightens the lives of everyone around them.”

“Our hearts are with his parents, with his partner and with all his family and friends,” the chain’s manager expressed, visibly affected, in the statement that has gone viral around the world.

Scottish politician Nicola Sturgeon has published some words of affection and support to the family and friends of the deceased journalist: ”It is terribly sad to read this. It’s really horrible. Nick was young, talented, lively and full of potential. What a horrible, senseless loss. My thoughts are with his family and his colleagues and friends.”

He also wanted to comment on the death of 32-year-old Humza Yousaf, the Scottish First Minister: “I wanted to express on behalf of the Scottish Government and the party I lead how sad we are at the tragic news of the loss of Nick Sheridan. Nick was “an extremely talented journalist and author and he will be greatly missed (…)  My thoughts are with his family, his many friends and indeed his colleagues at what will no doubt be a very sad time.”

Thousands of messages from fans, followers and friends of the boy have been added to the official and political condolences, who are still unable to believe that he died at only 32 years of age.

Although he was known for his popular work at the Scottish BBC, the deceased young man had a promising career ahead of him as a writer of children’s stories. In addition, as Metro has reported, he worked as a reporter, researcher and university professor.

Although the news has had wide national and international reach, at the moment the real reason for the boy’s death is unknown. It is only known that he suffered a brief illness that took his life.
