Sometimes it is due to a simple oversight and other times due to ignorance, but in both cases it is easy to make mistakes when dressing. Something that is even more common when it comes to certain garments, one of them has to do with American jackets. One of the basic garments in any sophisticated wardrobe worth its salt, both to be worn with all types of clothing combinations and as part of a suit as a whole. For this reason, many people go to their trusted clothing brand to get something that fits them like a glove, they keep it in their closet and, one day, they put it on, ready to go out and show it off. And, without knowing it, making a mistake.

“It is a super common mistake that I see everywhere,” explains Juan Avellanada through his account on the TikTok social network. The fashion designer warns of this common mistake that often occurs when it comes to the use of American jackets. Many jackets, including some coats, have a cross sewn on the back with a couple of stitches that holds the back opening together. And the mistake consists precisely in not removing it.

If an American jacket has an ‘x’-shaped stitching on the back, this must be removed before wearing it. It may also be the case that there are two if the design of the garment has a double opening. But that is not the only mistake that Avellaneda warns about, there are also other very common ones that should not be made.

When buying a blazer, you have to check it before simply putting it on and walking out the door. Not only to check if it has this previously mentioned rear stitching, but also other elements that would also have to be removed. How can it be a cross similar to the one on the back opening, but in the cuff area, something common at the bottom, just before where the buttons begin. This must also be removed beforehand when wearing the American jacket.

Equally important will be to make sure that it does not have the brand label in the same area, on the cuff of the jacket. If so, it must also be removed. “That is also horrible,” says Avellaneda. The same thing happens in the area of ??the shoulder pads, where you can also find stitching made with threads and which, as with the rest, must be removed before wearing the garment to avoid making these very frequent mistakes.
