In a recent episode of the interview series Who’s Talking? From Max and CNN, former California governor and Hollywood action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger has expressed his desire to run for the US presidency if constitutionally possible.
Chris Wallace, the show’s host, asked, “The Constitution says the President has to be a natural-born American citizen. If it weren’t for that, would you have run for president?” Schwarzenegger, who was the 38th governor of California from 2003 to 2011, was quick to reply: “Well yes, of course.”
The actor cannot run for president of the United States because, despite spending practically all his life on American soil, he was born in Austria. And the Constitution stipulates that the President must be a US citizen by birth, a criterion that Schwarzenegger does not meet.
According to the former governor, he could be an ideal candidate to unify American society: “I mean, who is there? There really isn’t one person who can unite everyone.” In this sense, Schwarzenegger recalled that in the current state of American politics, voting against someone is more prioritized than voting for a favorite candidate, but he would be voted for his proposals and not for penalizing others.
Candidates for the presidential elections have to thank that the Austrian cannot run. Schwarzenegger has been confident in his chances of winning, drawing parallels to his successful run as governor of California. “I have no doubt. I see very clearly how he could win those elections,” he assured. In addition, he has indicated that there are numerous things that need to be addressed and that, in fact, “all are doable” in his opinion.
