Maria do Socorro Azevedo is 60 years old and these days she has become one of the proper names in Brazil. Because? Well, because she wants to unearth Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pelé, to prove that he was her father, and collect a part of her inheritance. All of this, just 13 months after his death.

Although a first DNA test ruled out Pelé’s alleged paternity, Azevedo does not throw in the towel and assures that the former player had an affair with his mother. Now, he adds that he did not know that his mother had become pregnant.

For everything, now he wants to exhume his remains, for justice to be done, and to be able to claim part of his heritage. At the moment, he has already formally requested it from the Sao Paulo Court. The woman’s advocate claims that the first DNA test, the one she tested negative for, was carried out in a different laboratory from where the player’s recognized children went.

On the other hand, Pelé’s widow’s lawyer says that Azevedo’s request makes no sense, while the family’s lawyer has already warned that he will challenge it.
