Amaia Montero has not had the best of summers. Last July, the former singer of Van Gogh’s Ear was admitted for ten days to the ICU of the Beata María Ana Hospital in Madrid. According to sources close to the family, she was hospitalized for a hand injury. This was the last of several medical setbacks that she has gone through this year, always under family supervision. Despite this, signs of support came from a multitude of sources.

Now, the native of Irún has once again lavished herself on social networks, after a period of absence. She has done it through the Instagram stories system, publishing a photograph with the group’s keyboardist, Xabi San Martín. Likewise, the snapshot is accompanied by one of her most iconic songs with the Spanish rock band: La Playa. This is a song from 2000, included on the album Copperpot’s Journey, dedicated to La Concha beach, in San Sebastián.

As its composer expressed at the time, this song was a tribute to the younger days of him and his companions. An expression of free time, summers and the thousand and one occurrences that occurred around the San Sebastian beach. San Martín commented at the time that La Playa was “a song to longing and nostalgia,” as well as a way to see how Van Gogh’s Ear had matured on a musical and artistic level.

The piece became a phenomenon at the time in Spain. It remained at number 1 on Los 40 Principales for two weeks, in addition to being praised by many music fans. It was classified as one of the best slow songs written in Spanish, and has multiple versions, both by Amaia Montero herself and by the band with Leire Martínez on board. One of the most recent dates back to 2009, together with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra.

Amaia Montero’s physical and mental health has been a cause of concern for her inner circle and many followers for months. The former vocalist of Van Gogh’s Ear had been away from public life for some time, ensuring that she would return “soon” but publishing photographs with a bad appearance, worrying fans. The situation took a serious turn at the end of 2022, when one of his writings gained notoriety and set off alarm bells.

“If hope is the last thing to die and I haven’t lost it yet, what good is life to me?” read the text. Shortly after, she was urgently admitted to the Navarra University Clinic, after having suffered a strong episode of stress and anxiety. Since then, updates on her condition have come in dribs and drabs, but the latest images denote a significant change for the better.
