José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Teresa Urquijo have decided to start their married life to the rhythm of chotis, thus demonstrating their deep love and roots in Madrid traditions. The choice of this dance, typical of the city the groom governs, instead of the classic waltz that many couples prefer, has only reinforced the original personality of the couple and their desire to pay tribute to their hometown.
The newlyweds, who prepared this moment with great enthusiasm, chose Madrid to open the dance. It is a very traditional and emotional piece by the Mexican Agustín Lara performed by Plácido Domingo.
Contrary to expectations, the mayor did not begin the dance with the godmother, his sister Casilda, but with Magdalena, who has come from Brussels to be present on such a special day. For her part, Teresa did what was expected and opened the dance with her father, Lucas Urquijo, in a clear show of respect and family tradition.
Despite the nerves and excitement, the couple demonstrated their dancing skills, or at least their desire to try, drawing applause and approving laughter from the guests. In this way, the fact that they are not expert dancers took a backseat to the enthusiasm and joy they radiated.
This dance was one of the many details that the couple wanted to have with Madrid: the groom wore a badge on his lapel in honor of the capital, the tables had names of emblematic points of the city and Lhardy, one of the restaurants. best known in Madrid, served the menu to the more than 600 guests who traveled to the El Canto de la Cruz estate, property of the bride’s grandparents.
