Alfonso Arús issues a serious warning to all tourists visiting Spain this summer

In Spain, for once, we are in luck in terms of water reserves. A few weeks before summer arrives, the peninsular reservoirs are at 66.3%, a percentage slightly higher than the average stored water for the last ten years (65.3%).

A news that has excited Aruser@s, who usually control everything that happens in terms of weather phenomena, with Dr. Marc Redondo at the helm. For this reason, they have not hesitated to give some advice to tourists visiting the country this summer, to try to conserve water.

Warnings such as not wasting by opening the tap if it is not necessary, not even to brush your teeth; but without a doubt the winner was the advice of Alfonso Arús himself, who warned younger tourists not to be seduced by their desire to practice balconies.

“Don’t do balconies because when you fall, water is wasted,” declared the presenter. Angie Cardenas finished off the comment from the other side of the table: “It’s true, because they fall, it splashes and the water comes out.”

A comment that unleashed laughter from the collaborators, but on a topic that has already left its first fatality. On May 7, a 23-year-old German tourist lost his life in the first case recorded this year after falling from a fourth-floor height in a hotel in S’Arenal de Palma, apparently while trying to access his room from the roof. , after losing the key.

Even so, the most important thing is that consumptive use reservoirs – those whose purpose is human consumption and agriculture – are at 56.5%, according to data from the latest weekly report of the Hydrological Bulletin, published by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco).

This means that in most parts of Spain there is now more water stored than at the same time last year. Still, there is no need to claim victory. Longer and more frequent meteorological droughts have been added to the hydrological scarcity, which is already chronic in Spain due to high water consumption.

We find an increasing number of days with temperatures above 40 degrees, which worsens the drought, especially pronounced in the south of Spain and Catalonia. The Water Authorities, for the moment, continue their efforts to confront droughts through urgent measures and exceptions.
