Last Sunday, the Sevillian goalkeeper Sergio Rico, a player for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), suffered a dramatic equestrian accident in El RocÃo (Huelva) that led him to be admitted urgently to the Virgen del RocÃo Hospital in Seville, where he remains in ICU -sedated, although stable, within gravity.
A little over 24 hours have passed since the dramatic event, and his family continues to wait for improvement. In particular, his wife, the journalist Alba Silva, who does not leave his side and who, after a few decisive first hours, has reappeared on his Instagram profile to tell how he feels and to thank all those who do not stop sending messages of support both to her and to the athlete’s family.
“Thank you for all your love for us. Sergio has many people praying for him and he is very strong,” she says, heartfelt and trusting more than ever in her husband’s strength. Now, when it comes to saying how she is, her words fail her: “I have no words to say how I feel.”
The journalist also requests respect for the media regarding the information that is distributed, since her husband’s condition is very delicate at this time. At the moment, and as reported by the Virgen del RocÃo Hospital in Seville, Rico remains in the intensive care unit attended by Intensive Medicine specialists, under the effect of sedation. His general condition is stable within the seriousness range and he is awaiting clinical evolution in the coming days.
Sergio Rico and Alba Silva got married in June of last year, after having had to postpone their wedding on several occasions due to the pandemic. A celebration full of emotion that took place at the La Caprichosa farmhouse in Gerena, a few kilometers from the Seville capital; that sealed their love after more than six years of sentimental relationship.
The journalist is one of the fundamental pillars in the footballer’s life, and her grief at this time is more than palpable. At the moment, Silva has not offered news about the last minute of her husband’s state of health.
Last Sunday morning, Rico suffered an accident on the back of a runaway horse. The 29-year-old athlete received several kicks to the head from the animal once on the ground, according to eyewitnesses to the Andalusia 112 Emergency Service, triggering a head injury. From emergencies, the goalkeeper was given first medical assistance, but he had to be transferred to the Virgen del RocÃo Hospital in Seville by helicopter, in serious condition, where he has remained since then.
From 112, the Civil Guard and 061 were notified, and the doorman received initial medical assistance from the Health Emergencies Center installed in the village, which transferred him by helicopter, in serious condition, to the Virgen del RocÃo Hospital.
His representation agency, You First, communicates that they are “waiting for results on his medical evolution”, but that the Sevillian, as confirmed by the hospital, is “stable within gravity”.
