Adidas breaks the internet with its new Samba sneakers inspired by a napkin

When we believed that the Adidas Samba – one of the most popular (if not the most) of 2023 – was going to decline, the multinational has made sure that is not the case. The most viral model among the ‘influencer’ and sneaker-loving world has returned renewed and eager to hit the ground running again in 2024.

The formula that never fails is that of eternal collaboration – see the recent success of the Nike Air Jordan x Dior – and Adidas has turned to the world’s leading experimental footwear design studio. The alliance between Studio Hagel x Adidas Samba has become a reality and the first stirrings of this exciting synergy have already been seen.

Apparently inspired by the typical ‘cheesy’ napkins found in restaurants, with a retro and somewhat preppy aesthetic, these delicate and appetizing sneakers have already become a necessity for a wide community of followers. In four different color combinations, green and red, electric blue and turquoise, white, blue and pink, one of the main differences between these models and the old ones is the use of a completely renewed material.

While most pairs made so far were made from leather or suede, Studio Hagel has swapped this material for a soft crepe-like fabric. Each of the panels is highlighted by a line of contrasting stitching, while small flowers designed by Cecilie Bahnsen, a famed designer in Copenhagen, are also embroidered on all of the sneakers.

They are finished with a rubber sole and “Hagel” branding on the sides, just to remind everyone that these are not just any Sambas. To the surprise of many, it is not known when the Stugio Hagel x Samba collection will be released or if it will actually be released, as Adidas has not commented on the matter. On the contrary, the need is already created.
