“We are going to discuss a topic that never raises blisters, that everyone will like and that does not create controversy: we are going to talk about the monarchy.” These are the statements of Cristóbal Garrido and Adolfo Valor, the creators of La vida Breve, the new Movistar Plus fiction project, whose filming has begun in Madrid with Carlos Scholz, known for the series Toy boy, in the shoes of the monarch.
The idea is to tell “the story of the most stupid, loser king in the history of Spain”, who they consider to be Luis I the Short, the son of Felipe V. With the help of Javier Gutiérrez (Kings of the Night), Leonor Watling (Nasdrovia) and Alicia Armenteros (Better Days) leading the cast, the scriptwriters intend to offer a “romantic period comedy.”
The synopsis is as follows: “Like any young man, Luis is about to experience big changes. He is married to an unknown cousin and he is going to inherit the throne of Spain. In full s. XVIII This would be a happy episode in the life of any prince, but they are not going to make it easy for Luis. With a rebellious wife (Louise of Orleans), an alienated father (Philip V) and a conspiring stepmother (Elizabeth of Farnese), Louis I played by Carlos Scholz has to begin his reign. Luckily for him, the problems will end soon.”
“The life of Luis I is a brief parenthesis in the History of Spain. We came to it by chance and in the research process we fell in love with the period and its protagonists. Four very different people to whom the throne brings more pain than joy in an exciting context. A funny, sad, surprising and emotional story that talks about the search for freedom, the enormous weight of the crown and something even heavier: family,” Valor and Garrido explained on the occasion of the start of filming.
The creative tandem is not the first time they have worked for Movistar Plus: in 2021 they released Kings of the Night, a comedy about radio sports journalism that was cancelled. Television rumor mill indicates that being inspired by José María García and José Ramón de la Morena, although the characters of Miki Esparbé and Javier Gutiérrez had another name, had raised blisters in the industry.
Regarding the locations of La vida Breve, the production will have exceptional settings following a collaboration agreement with National Heritage: you will be able to see the palace and gardens of Quinta del Duque, the royal palace and gardens of Aranjuez and the royal palace and the gardens of the Granja de San Ildefonso. It will also be filmed in the Santoña palace, the Cartuja de Talamanca de Jarama, the Fernán Núñez palace, the La Granjilla estate and the Prado Museum.
