For the fifth time in its history, Spain assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), which will last until next December. Therefore, it is up to our country to organize the meetings of the Council and represent it before other community institutions.

This means that more than a thousand meetings are held, from those that bring together the ministers responsible for each branch to those for expert technicians in each subject of debate.

The language is not usually an impediment, because everything is developed in English. To the bad, the leaders and ministers can resort to translators. However, some want to have a gesture with the Spanish city that hosts their meeting, an idea that has not gone very well for the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, the Swedish Ylva Johansson.

In the press conference after the informal meeting of EU Interior Ministers, which was held at the Palacio de Congresos, Riojaforum (Logroño), the commissioner announced that she will propose extending the temporary protection directive for Ukrainian refugees until March 2025.

Until that moment, his appearance was proceeding as normal. The nice moment of the morning has come when Johansson wanted to thank the Spanish delegation for the reception in Logroño.

“Loglo, Logor…Logordo!” Said the Swede, who couldn’t say the name of the city correctly, the person in charge admitted in a hurry. She has taken it with humor, like the media gathered to cover the press conference. “But she would probably be used to IKEA furniture names!” another Twitter user joked.
