Margarita not only wants to find love, she is also looking for a husband. At 69 years old, this hotelier from Santurce (Vizcaya) confesses that she would like to get married. “I want to get married ‘to smallpox old age’, in the eyes of God, with my dress below the knee and surrounded by my family and friends.” Margarita declares that most of her life has been single, apart from a 16-year courtship. “Now I’ve been without sex for more than 10 years,” she says, considering herself a woman of the “20th century, traditional, classic, and a believer.” “I wouldn’t sleep with just anyone because then what? I would spend all my time going to the confessionalâ€, says Margarita, shocked.
Margarita’s appointment is MartÃn, 74 years old, retired and separated. “You are divorced? Uff, I don’t want a separate. I am a believer and I would like to legalize the relationship with my partner, not ‘get together’. I don’t trust separated people because they’re not looking for a stable relationship,†says Margarita. “At the age that I am, I am not for rolls. I want to get marriedâ€, insists the hostess. MartÃn guarantees that he also wants a serious relationship, but he does not consider getting married. In private, the woman is clear: “Without getting married there is no pension. Are you going to give it to the State? No. It should be for the person who has taken care of you during the last years of your lifeâ€, considers Margarita.
The tension between the couple is evident. And it is that Margarita did not like MartÃn from the beginning: “When I saw him he was not the type of man that would attract me here or on the street or anywhere. I don’t like him at all. He is not my type. When I saw him I thought: what a silence! He is the classic villager from Miranda del Ebro â€.
Regarding sex, Margarita defines herself as a “volcanoâ€, although she points out that “lust is a sin†and informs her date that she has not been intimate with any man for a decade. “It’s not understood. A person who has not had sexual intercourse for 10 years… It is not understoodâ€, said a skeptical MartÃn. “Margarita will never find a partner because what she demands is not there.”
At the next table, two young gay men were also enjoying their date. Chemistry flowed between them, something that caught Margarita’s attention: “Will these two girls be lesbians? One is very old and the other is too young, â€Margarita interrupts her appointment. “How will they do it? The boys have a place to go, but how will they do it?†Margarita wonders. MartÃn tries to explain the methods they use, making an effort not to “scare” her classic company.
The account was shared. 20 euros each. Margarita assures that she has had a great time, but she has been annoyed at having to pay in half: “A gentleman always pays for dinner.”
