A dress of floral stickers: Simona Tabasco and the most original design of the Emmys

She may not win the Emmy but her dress was undoubtedly the most original of the 75th edition of the awards that, this Monday, take place at the Peacock Theater. The Italian actress Simona Tabasco, nominated for her role in ‘White Lotus’, has taken the 3D flower trend to the extreme with a design that promises to make people talk.

Roses, lilies and anthuriums bloom this season in haute couture designs to give them volume and blur the figure on the red carpet, as celebrities such as Dua Lipa and Margot Robbie demonstrated at the Critics Choice Awards.

The Italian, determined to bet on originality and creativity, has managed to give a twist to this industry’s fixation on flowers with a design from Marni’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection that looks like a dress collage made with stickers of flowers.

They are cutouts of drawings of juxtaposed flowers, one on top of the other and from top to bottom, in order of size, from small to large. The resulting design is a lady-style dress, reminiscent of the sixties and featuring thin straps, a square neckline and a princess-cut midi skirt.

The dress is so striking that Tabasco has not had to make great efforts to combine it. Neither bag nor large accessories. The actress has styled the piece with pink Mary Jane shoes and makeup in which an intense red lipstick took center stage.
