For many, the installation of a polyurethane resin shower tray represents a great qualitative leap in their bathroom. This element improves comfort and safety when cleaning in front of the bathtub and also has extensive aesthetic possibilities. However, inefficient water evacuation can cause users great discomfort from the first days. Below, we explain the main reasons why shower trays overflow.
Opting for an extra-flat shower tray requires ensuring that it has sufficient slope to drain. To do this, it is essential that the shower tray is correctly leveled and that the bubble is in the exact center or, otherwise, the slope will be reduced, canceled or inverted. Deviations of the bubble to one side could cause the water to not drain normally towards the drain, or even to flow in the opposite direction.
If the shower tray has not completely adhered to the support or the expansion joints have not been respected, it could crack or deform. In this way the water would not circulate in the correct direction, which would make it difficult to drain.
The slope of the shower tray will be more limited the smaller its thickness, regardless of the material it is made of. That is why users must adjust the flow rate emitted by the faucet to the drainage capacity of the dish. Another aspect that must be taken into account during installation is that the flow inlet should not directly affect the grate. In this way, air is prevented from escaping, which causes the drain to not drain properly.
Beyond the problems derived from the installation of the plate itself, the slope of the pipe that joins the drain to the general pipe could be insufficient to drain the water correctly. If this is not very pronounced, water will tend to accumulate in the pipe and the shower tray could overflow. In these cases, professionals recommend replacing this pipe with one with a slope of between 2% and 3% that connects directly to the downspout.
The pipes can become clogged with debris if you do not perform proper routine maintenance on your shower tray. To do this, it is necessary to lift the grate and remove the siphon from the valve to clean it. Then, to clean the pipe itself, insert the shower hose into it and let the hot water run for a few minutes. You can complement the cleaning using a conventional plunger.
