On social networks we find an excellent source of inspiration to decorate our homes. Compositions with good taste, original ideas or videos teaching us how to do something ourselves at home. However, reality does not always live up to expectations.
There are some decoration trends that garner ‘likes’ on social networks and that are disappointing when we translate them into real life. It should be noted that personal taste has a lot to do with this, but more objectively, there are certain decorative ideas that are not as aesthetic or that do not fulfill their function as well as one might expect.
The trend of making furniture with pallets comes from a good reason: recycling or, rather, upcycling. However, in reality this type of furniture is not particularly comfortable. And, unless the wood has been worked very well, with polishing, sanding, varnishing, painting and adding textiles such as cushions or blankets, it can result in a disheveled appearance for the room. If you are going to choose to make furniture with pallets, it is better to reserve them for your terrace, porch or garden, instead of indoor spaces.
This trend responds to the industrial, modern and somewhat minimalist decoration style. Used sparingly, it can give a casual look to a specific room, and is very common in cafes and restaurants, but it does not look particularly good in a home. Depending on what that exposed brick is like, the room could look unfinished. Additionally, it is difficult to clean the dust that accumulates in the wall grooves. Finally, it is not exactly cozy, giving a feeling of coldness.
A decorative style that became fashionable thanks to vintage aesthetics. A priori, it can be fun, original and casual. However, from a more critical point of view, it gives a feeling of neglect, that time and taste have not been dedicated to decorating the dining room in a more balanced way.
The maximum expression of minimalist decoration is to decorate entire rooms in white or cream. It is true that this style emanates a feeling of calm and invites relaxation. Plus, we think it looks cleaner visually. And it is like that, but only at the beginning. If you do not dedicate thorough maintenance and cleaning, white furniture and walls will be the first to reveal stains and marks due to wear and tear or possible bumps. Keep this in mind before going all out on white in your home, especially if you have children or pets.
