“What happened that October day in Pedraza? Was there a satanic ritual? “What happened that scared you so much?” asks Najwa Nimri’s character in the trailer for the second season of 30 Coins. But, while she tries to find out what happened in that lost town in which a large part of the inhabitants had to enter a psychiatric center, a parallel alliance is drawn: one between the demonic forces led by Lucifer (Cosimo Fusco) and the father Vergara (Eduard Fernández) who fought against them.
“We were fighting to dominate the world. He wants to annihilate him,” warns the demon about a new character: the millionaire played by Paul Giamatti. This one has a theory: the only way to predict the exact date of the end of the world is to cause the apocalypse yourself. And, of course, this annihilation does not fit with the plans of the dark forces, whose plan soured at the end of the first season, when they lost control of the thirty coins.
The synopsis of the season indicates that Elena lies in a coma, in a hospital bed, and Paco (Miguel Ángel Silvestre), devastated by remorse, tries to take care of her. But the images show much more: how Elena (Megan Montaner) is tortured by demons, how Merche (Macarena Gómez) has power after finding a coin and how Vergara, in hell, finds a way to make a pact with the devil himself. Who could have imagined that, as the story continued, we would see Eduard Fernández in zombie mode with a decomposed face?
The second season, which premieres on October 23 on HBO Max, will be written again by Álex de la Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarria, who already jointly signed the scripts for the first season. This time the director of The Community or The Day of the Beast recorded the episodes in both Spain and Italy, the United States, France and the United Kingdom.
30 Coins will have taken its time to return as is increasingly common in the streaming universe: the first episodes were released in November 2020, so it will have spent three years away from the television spotlight. And, as the new trailer indicates, it’s time to raise the bar at the production level:
