Skrillex and Fred Again to Headline Sold Out Rave in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Excitement is building as 25,000 music fans are set to attend the Skrillex and Fred Again show, a sold-out outdoor rave taking place this Saturday at Civic Center Plaza. With tickets selling out in just over 24 hours, the event has sparked curiosity about its potential impact on the city’s post-pandemic recovery.

“It’s going to be a massive event,” shared SF Supervisor Matt Dorsey. “This is a really good thing for the city, especially in terms of activating the neighborhood.”

Local businesses like Chao Pescao restaurant are gearing up for the influx of attendees. Owner Rene Dennis expressed enthusiasm about the economic boost the event will bring. “It makes for a good week. It gives everyone here an opportunity to make a little more extra money. It’s just exciting,” Dennis noted.

Despite challenges faced by downtown San Francisco, event organizers Another Planet Entertainment estimate that the rave will inject tens of millions of dollars into the local economy. Melissa Buckminster from the Downtown SF Partnership highlighted the importance of consistent events in revitalizing the area post-pandemic.

While nightlife and entertainment sectors took a hard hit during the pandemic, the city views events like this as crucial to its economic resurgence. Ben Van Houten, Business Development Manager for Nightlife and Entertainment at the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development, emphasized the city’s status as a music hub and the importance of such events in showcasing this.

Although the city is not directly involved in organizing the rave, Mayor London Breed recently returned from a business trip to China with plans to support future events through initiatives like the downtown energy grant program. With 40% of attendees traveling from outside the Bay Area, the event is expected to draw a diverse crowd and provide a boost to local businesses.

As the anticipation builds for the sold-out rave headlined by Skrillex and Fred Again, San Francisco is poised to showcase its vibrant music scene and continue its journey towards economic recovery.
