15 things to do this weekend in Orange County (April 7-9)

In the calm before Easter weekend, you might want to get out and have a little fun. There are corgis on the beach, early egg hunts, Hawaiian music and dance and more. Here are our picks for the weekend.

‘THE FLEDGLING’: Stages Theatre, which gave local playwright Colleen McCandless’ one-act play a staged reading in 2016, now offers the show’s world premiere. “Fledgling” is about the dissolution of a family in the wake of the matriarch’s untimely death. ‘ON GOLDEN POND’: If you enjoyed the 1981 movie “On Golden Pond” starring Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda, check out Camino Real Playhouse’s live version. The play tells the story of an aging couple, Ethel and Norman Thayer, and their annual trip to their New England cottage. It opens Friday, March 31, for a three-week run, including evening shows and matinees. Director Tom Scott suggests that you may even find the local version leaves you with more family-feel-good warmth than the movie did. ARLO GUTHRIE IN CONCERT: “Arlo Guthrie: Running Down the Road Tour”: Since the late sixties, folk icon Guthrie has spent his life in a state of perpetual tourdom … on trains, planes, buses and motorcycles. Following the sold-out “Alice’s Restaurant 50th Anniversary Tour,” he is hitting the road once again. Join Guthrie on this latest musical road trip. CORGI BEACH DAY: Join corgi owners and corgi enthusiasts on Saturday, April 8, at the 2017 Spring So Cal Corgi Nation Beach Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Huntington Dog Beach, at Goldenwest and Pacific Coast Highway. Enter your corgi for the costume and limbo contests, stop by the kissing booth, and take selfies at the Instagram meet and greet area – or just enjoy a day at the beach. It’s all free. EASTER EGG HUNTS: Some Orange County cities’ Easter bunnies are hiding their eggs early this year. The big day is April 16, but on Saturday, April 8, you have at least 5 hunts to choose from.

In Anaheim Hills, the annual Easter egg hunt is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 8 at Ronald Reagan Park. The Rotary Club will hide some 6,000 eggs filled with jellybeans, bowling certificates, and other prizes. Other activities planned include kids games, crafts, egg coloring and photos with the Easter Bunny. There will also be a raffle and silent auction as well as Rotarians grilling hot dogs and burgers, which are available for purchase. Free.

In Fullerton, the Fullerton Family YMCA is having a mini Easter celebration at 2000 Youth Way from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be a visit by the Easter Bunny, games, activities, cotton candy, and more. Register at the front desk ahead of time.

In Laguna Hills, Mr. Easter Bunny is at the Laguna Hills Mall for visits and photo opportunities. The annual Egg hunt on Saturday, April 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy free Easter Buckets, games, prizes, free kids’ crafts, balloon twisters and more.

In Placentia, the Placentia Library is hosting its annual free Egg Hunt and spring activities at Kramer Park, 201 N. Bradford Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be Easter egg hunts for children ages 12 and under, storytime, crafts, bounce house, face painting, games, pictures with the Easter Bunny, a boutique and more. There will also be food for sale.

In Santa Ana, the Heritage Museum of Orange County is hosting its annual Easter Egg Hunt from 9 a.m. to noon at 3101 W. Harvard St., Santa Ana. This event is free and open to all It’s a fun day full of music, crafts, opportunity drawings, face painting, and or course, the big hunt.

5K & HEALTH FAIR: The Survive and Thrive 5K Run/Walk Health and Safety Expo will be held Saturday, April 8, at Mason Regional Park to help raise money for crime survivors and other charities. The event will feature a 5K run and walk after survivors dove release at 8:45 a.m. The health and safety expo will include live entertainment, vendors with free samples, free food and drinks, health screening and carnival games. 7 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 8. 18712 University Drive, Irvine. ‘HEROES IN DISGUISE’: The world’s mightiest heroes raising money for a good cause, the Literacy Project. HAWAIIAN MUSIC & DANCE SHOW: The “World Cafe – Island Soul” event features the “Masters of Hawaiian Music” with Grammy winner George Kahumoku, Jr., Nathan Aweau and Kawika Kahiapo, honoring the traditional ki-ho’alu sound of Hawaiian music; and “N? A DOLL’S HOUSE, PART 2: In 1879 at the Royal Theatre in Denmark, Nora Helmer slammed the door of her home, leaving her husband and children behind in the final scene of Henry Ibsen’s classic play “A Doll’s House.” It became one of the world’s most performed plays. Now, theatergoers have the opportunity to see what happens when Nora returns to the door she slammed in South Coast Repertory’s world premiere of “A Doll’s House, Part 2.” It fast-forwards the characters through 15 years and shows the aftermath of what happens when a woman journeys to discover oneself.
