The Hyundai Kona has become one of the preferred models for customers looking for a B-segment SUV. In its second generation, the Korean brand is opting for a larger model – 4.36 meters in length -, bolder and more dynamic. , with a bold look and design inspired by dynamic urban lifestyles.
The pure electric version, called Kona EV, represents another step in the ambitious electrification plans of the Korean brand, which plans for 70% of its automobile production to be 100% electric by 2030.
The exterior design is futuristic, with touches of purity and robustness. Its aerodynamic performance stands out, with a coefficient of 0.27. At the front it is identified by a satin chrome spoiler and, at a glance from the side, a dynamic cut profile combined with a distinctively designed wheel arch lining can be seen.
The electric version is identified by specific details such as Pixel Seamless Horizon daytime running lights, specific bumpers and Pixel graphics on the intake grille, black perimeter line, aerodynamic side sills, body-color wheel arches and 19-inch wheels. inches with Pixel design. It also has four exclusive colors and a two-tone combination.
Habitability is one of its strong points. The width of the cabin is optimal, the rear legroom is surprising in a car of its size and the trunk maintains the 466 liters of volume available in the rest of the range. This capacity can be increased to 1,300 liters and the tailgate offers different opening heights to facilitate loading and unloading operations.
The Kona EV incorporates the latest features of the Hyundai Smart Sense driver assistance system, including Intelligent Parking Assist, Forward Collision Assist 2.0 with additional functions such as evasive steering, intersection crossing, oncoming lane change and lateral lane change.
Regarding the rest of the range, the Kona EV has specific functions such as a customizable virtual active sound design, Head-up Display screen, bidirectional charging function of up to 3.6 kW, i-pedal, regenerative system, battery conditioning or route planner with charging points.
The new Kona EV is available with two battery options, 48.4 and 65.4 kWh. The first is equipped with a 156 HP engine with a range of 377 km and consumption from 14.6 kWh/100 km. The extended autonomy version, tested by Moveo La Vanguardia, offers a maximum power of 218 HP and a range of 514 km, which, for example, would allow covering the distance between Madrid and Lugo. Its responsiveness is very energetic, achieving acceleration records typical of a sports car.
The approved consumption is 14.7 kWh/100 km and it is not difficult to achieve real averages between 16 and 17 kWh/100 km. Another of its virtues is the speed in recovering energy: a fast direct current charger allows you to add up to 162 km of autonomy in just 15 minutes.
Driving the new Hyundai Kona EV is very pleasant. Although it has not been designed to transmit great sensations behind the wheel, it is a car that performs perfectly on any type of route and provides truly remarkable levels of driving comfort.
To optimize the vehicle’s energy performance, the driver can choose between Eco, Sport, Normal and Snow driving modes. Driving with Eco mode, the mechanical response is more than enough to advance decisively on any type of route.
To achieve the objective of minimizing electricity consumption, the availability of paddles on the steering wheel allows the regenerative braking to be adjusted, up to the i-pedal. This function is very practical, especially for driving in urban areas.
