Some faults in the electrical sensors of your car can affect you at the most inopportune moment. One of the effects that can occur is the tailgate blockage. If you are not able to open it either with the remote key or manually, here are some of the reasons that this failure of your vehicle could be due to:

The system that allows you to open both the doors and the trunk of the car is affecting the lock. It is a rare failure, but that does not exempt it from breaking down at any time. In this case, you will have no choice but to replace the lock, which will cost you around 100 euros.

The trunk handles work thanks to a cable that moves the handle and thus allows the lock to be unlocked. This cable is short and is usually sensitive to shocks, with which it could suffer partial damage or even break. This will prevent the gate from opening again.

A simple reason why your trunk does not open may be that the remote key has been misconfigured or has run out of battery. If so, you will have to open the driver’s door lock manually with the sword, give the ignition and press the central locking button to open the trunk and the other doors.

A much more expensive failure to solve will be the one that affects the motor that allows the automatic lifting of the gate. This system, present in a part of modern vehicles, is activated by passing your foot under the vehicle. These cars incorporate a sensor in the underbody of the rear that decodes the order to open the trunk. The sensor sends the signal to the electric motor to put pressure on the hydraulics and thus raise the trunk door automatically. If the trunk does not open, the electric motor may have failed. Fixing it will have an estimated cost of 400 euros.

The problem can also be due to other failures in this process, for example, gas or oil leaks in the hydraulics that raise the gate, depending on its design. In this way the hydraulics will not have enough force to lift the door. Changing these parts can be worth between 200 and 300 euros.

If your car has a keyless system, which manages to open and start the car with the key in your pocket, it is not detected correctly, the trunk will not open. It may have been downloaded.

In this case, it is not that the lock has broken, but that an inhibitor is preventing your car key from sending the signal to open or close the trunk or the doors.

If you have to open the trunk while you are solving any of these faults, you can always, from the rear seats, locate and remove a cover that is located on the inside of the tailgate. In it is the lock anchor that, with a screwdriver or simply with your finger, you can move to open it.
