The Tavascan is Cupra’s big news for 2024 and we have already given many details of this new electric SUV on this channel. In fact, we have published photos of their static presentations in Sitges, Madrid, Berlin and Automobile Barcelona.
But what had not happened until now is that, by chance, we saw it driving on the road. And although it is common for new cars to do thousands of test kilometers before going on sale, it is rare to discover it in action.
Hunted while underway on the N-230 road, near El Pont de Suert, the Tavascan is manufactured in China, but is designed and developed in Martorell. And one of the priorities of the Spanish brand is to adapt the behavior of its vehicles to the use preferences of European drivers, considered the most demanding in the world.
On the other hand, it is curious that, although it is not yet for sale, the DGT already has about 12 registered units of the brand new Tavascan registered. Otherwise, the necessary kilometers would not be possible for the car to reach its new owners in the best conditions.
The Cupra Tavascan is the first 100% electric SUV of the Martorell brand and the second electric model, after the Born. The name refers to the town of Lleida in the Pyrenees and represents the impetus for Cupra’s new design language, which will be present in the brand’s upcoming launches.
Its design exudes freshness and modernity and does not leave you indifferent. We would say that it seduces from the first moment. With dimensions that respond to a successful balance between sportiness and versatility for everyday use, it is a format that powerfully attracts.
As a great novelty, the Cupra logo is illuminated, presiding over the hood and creating an unprecedented technological image. Seen from the side, very athletic proportions can be seen, with a wedge shape that runs from the model’s nose to the tailgate.
With a length of 4.64 meters, 1.86 wide and 1.60 high, the wheelbase is 2.77 meters to offer a spacious and comfortable cabin. You can also mount 19, 20 and 21-inch aerodynamically cut wheels.
With the Volkswagen group’s MEB platform as a base, the Tavascan will have the VZ version as the top of the range. It will mount two electric motors, one on each axle, with a power of 286 HP (rear) and 109 HP (front) and all-wheel drive. In total, 340 HP.
The Tavascan VZ, the sportiest, will allow its driver to choose between Range, Comfort, Performance, Cupra, Individual and Traction (4×4) driving modes.
The Endurance version, for its part, will use a single 286 HP rear motor with an advanced liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. This battery has a capacity of 77 kWh and will allow a range of 550 km. The range of the VZ is estimated at about 520 km with the same battery.
Regarding charging, Cupra explains that it will be able to recover 100 km of autonomy in just 7 minutes, and go from 10 to 80% charge in 30 minutes. All in a charging point of at least 135 kW of power.
The dynamic presentation of the Tavascan will take place in the middle of the year. And it will reach dealerships at the end of the year with a price that could be, as a guideline, between 55,000 and 65,000 euros. Without counting on the official aid that this type of vehicles have.
