Unemployment rose in August by 3,190 people in the Valencian Community, the second territory where it grew the most. Unemployment rose in the 16 remaining communities, with Catalonia (7,516) as the first territory, followed by the Community and Andalusia (2,882) also at the top. The increase in unemployment in the Community is 0.98% and follows the trend of the rest of the territories that experience variations of less than 1%, as explained by the Ministry of Labor in the data known this first Monday in September. In total, there are 350,516 registered unemployed.

Unemployment has increased in the three provinces, 0.78% in Alicante, 1.25% in Castellón and another 1.08% in Valencia with respect to the previous month. In year-on-year terms, it has fallen more in Valencia (12,040 fewer people, -6.90%) and in Alicante (10,418 fewer unemployed, -7.32%), while in Castellón the decrease has been 976 people ( -2.71%).

Of the total, 55,050 people are foreigners, 21,347 of them from the European Union and another 33,703 from outside the EU. In this case, unemployment among foreigners fell by 531 people and in the last twelve months unemployment among these workers has fallen by 2,436 people, 4.24%.

Of the 340,298 unemployed in the Community, 199,996 are women and 129,395 men, and 20,473 are under 25 years of age, with 10,723 men and 9,750 women unemployed below that age.

The Generalitat Valenciana has assessed the figures through the regional Secretary of Employment, Antonio Galvañ, who considers that it is a figure that is situated “in the usual values ??that are usually registered during this month of the year due to the end of the campaign Of summer”.

In this sense, he has recognized that the Consell “is concerned” about the delay in aid from Imserso by the central government, which could aggravate the employment situation in one of the most important sectors for the Valencian Community such as tourism . “The Government must act immediately -Galvañ has claimed-, and not delay a solution to the Imserso aid which, if it does not occur, will mean a drain on employment in the tourism sector of the Valencian Community”.

Finally, the regional secretary has assured that the Generalitat and Labora will defend the jobs in the tourism sector of the Valencian Community “in the face of the inaction of the Government, with concrete actions and proposals”. Thus, he has advanced that this week new meetings will be held with representatives of the sector to establish an action plan.
