Thieves Caught on Video Stealing Woman’s Wallet at South Miami Restaurant

Police in South Miami are on the hunt for a group of thieves who were caught on surveillance video stealing a woman’s wallet at a local restaurant. The incident occurred on September 14th around 10:30 a.m. when a couple dressed in all black and baseball caps sat down next to two women who were having breakfast.

According to South Miami Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Fernando Bosch, the male suspect immediately began eyeing the victim’s purse upon entering the restaurant. He then proceeded to move his table closer to the victim in an attempt to steal her wallet discreetly. Despite several failed attempts due to people walking around, the man eventually succeeded in taking the wallet out of the victim’s purse and hiding it under a menu in his hands.

After the theft, the male suspect left the restaurant, followed shortly by his companion. The pair then headed to Brickell City Centre where they attempted to use the victim’s credit cards to purchase Apple computers. Although the victim had canceled her credit card, the suspects managed to make a $2,900 purchase at Saks Fifth Avenue using another stolen credit card.

In the course of their investigation, police have identified approximately six individuals involved in the crime. They are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help apprehend the suspects.

Preventing Theft and Protecting Your Belongings

The theft at the South Miami restaurant serves as a reminder for individuals to be mindful of their surroundings and take precautions to protect their belongings. Here are some tips to help prevent becoming a victim of theft:

1. Keep Your Belongings Close: When dining out or in public places, always keep your purse, wallet, or belongings within sight and reach. Avoid hanging your purse on the back of a chair where it can easily be accessed by potential thieves.

2. Use Secure Bags: Consider using crossbody bags or bags with zippers and compartments to make it more difficult for thieves to access your belongings. Keep important items like cash, credit cards, and identification in secure pockets.

3. Stay Aware: Be observant of your surroundings and pay attention to individuals who may be acting suspiciously or getting too close to your personal space. Trust your instincts and move your belongings if you feel uncomfortable.

4. Cancel Lost or Stolen Cards: If you suspect that your wallet or credit cards have been stolen, immediately contact your bank or credit card company to cancel the cards and prevent unauthorized transactions.
