The Volta a Catalunya will have a three-day women's version in 2024

The management of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will organize the first edition of this competition in its women’s version with a three-day stage test, which will take place between June 7 and 9, 2024.

This new race, which has the support of the Generalitat of Catalonia through Esportcat, takes over from the reVolta after four editions held as a single-day test.

With this novelty, the race will now have the UCI 2.1 category, which allows the participation of up to seven UCI Women’s World Tour teams (the best teams in the world), some of which have already confirmed their willingness to participate in it, according to the statement issued by the Volta organization.

Likewise, UCI Women’s Continental Teams (of the second category), and other national teams, will also be able to compete in the race, which will consist of three stages with a large part of the section in Catalan territory, according to the organizers.

The Minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà, described this development as “great news for Catalan cycling and for women’s sports”, and highlighted that the Generalitat “demonstrates with facts that this is the legislature of women’s sports.”

“The female Volta a Catalunya is a huge opportunity to convey to society the empowerment of women in women’s cycling and to take another step towards a sport with greater equal opportunities for everyone,” said Vilagrà.

For his part, the president of the Volta, Rubèn Peris, stated that the three-stage race “has met with a magnificent response, both from the Generalitat, as well as from populations interested in being departures and arrivals and from the sponsors”, and He highlighted the “interest among the teams to participate.”

The starting and finishing towns of the race, as well as the final route, will be defined shortly, according to the Volta management.
