The viralization on social networks of a video about reckless traffic behavior that ended in an accident has facilitated the identification and reporting of the drivers involved in the “pique”, which took place on the M-40 in Madrid. This was reported by the Civil Guard, which after verifying the authenticity of the recording, proceeded to arrest the motorists, who are being investigated for the crime of reckless driving.

The video, which we already reported on the Moveo channel, was published on October 18 on the profile of the SocialDrive platform on X (formerly Twitter). Since then it has accumulated more than 9 million views. Although the images were shared last week, the events occurred several months ago. As detailed by the worthy woman, everything happened on July 31, around 6:00 p.m., on the M-40 ring road in Madrid, between kilometers 14 and 17,700.

As can be seen in the recording, the drivers of a car and a van engaged in a chase for several minutes, clearly endangering both their safety and that of other road users. After traveling more than three kilometers combining reckless overtaking and lane changes, the situation ended when both vehicles collided. Fortunately, the accident did not cause any fatalities.

The analysis of the images recorded by another road user, contrasted with the recordings of the security cameras and the testimony of witnesses, allowed the Civil Guard to clarify the facts and arrest both the 22-year-old driver of the car and the the van, 33, the latter with various police records. Both are being investigated for reckless driving.

Reckless driving can lead to prison sentences. According to article 380 of the Penal Code, anyone who drives a motor vehicle or moped recklessly and consequently endangers the lives of others will have their license withdrawn for 1 to 6 years and faces imprisonment for 6 years. months to 2 years.

If this behavior is also carried out with “manifest disregard for the lives of others”, the punishment will carry a prison sentence of two to five years, a fine of twelve to twenty-four months and the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds. for a period of six to ten years.

Additionally, one of the drivers tested positive for drugs. This violation carries a fine of 1,000 euros and the deduction of six points from the license.
