The environmental activists The Tire Extinguishers (something like exterminators of wheels) have once again acted against SUV and off-road cars, which they consider great enemies of the environment. This time they have done it in Sant Cugat (Barcelona). As sources from the City Council of the Catalan town have confirmed to this medium, last morning, the local police caught two people red-handed while they were deflating the tires of a vehicle in the Eixample Sud neighborhood of that city. The agents only identified them -they were not arrested- and proceeded to check if there were more affected cars.

Although this organization that fights against climate change assures on its social networks that it acted on a hundred copies in Sant Cugat, the data offered by the consistory indicates that there were a quarantine those that had a flat tire. The group of activists has assured that this action has been part of a simultaneous and coordinated attack at a global level, in which more than six hundred SUVs and SUVs were attacked.

The Tire Extinguishers performed for the first time in our country less than a couple of weeks ago. It was in the Barcelona neighborhood of Sarrià. Then various SUV-type vehicles appeared with flat or punctured tires and with a protest note on the windshield, the same one that the affected specimens also had in Sant Cugat.

The text of this letter alerts the driver that the tires of his vehicle have been deflated so that he cannot circulate. In this way they want to make you aware of the high emissions that are harmful to health and the environment emitted by your car.

As they explain on their website, “we are people from all walks of life. We are defending ourselves against climate change, air pollution and unsafe drivers.” Its goal is to make it “impossible to own a huge, polluting SUV or SUV in urban areas.”

They have also shared a video with instructions to deflate a tire with the help of a lentil. As they explain, the seeds of this legume are the ideal size to fit into the inlet of the tire valve. When you put one on the inlet cap and screw it back on, air slowly escapes from the tire. With this trick, they want to encourage anyone “to do the same” against cars they consider “mass killers”.

As the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) itself has warned on occasion, in general terms, SUV cars, which are very fashionable, have worse aerodynamics and weigh more than other equivalent cars. These two aspects lead to higher fuel consumption and, therefore, more polluting emissions.

According to this organization, this creates a great paradox, since “on the one hand, they try to convince consumers to buy more ecological cars and, on the other, they promote cars whose size and shape increase consumption compared to the type of car that was sold years ago.
