The TecnoCampus of Mataró hosts this Friday, the International Sports Performance Congress (EPIC) organized by the Euroleague Players Association (ELPA) and begins the 3rd edition of EPIC, at the TecnoCampus. This event is positioned as the most important in the field of basketball in Europe and one of the most relevant on the continent in terms of sporting performance in general.
The Managing Director of the Association, Bostjan Nachbar, highlights that EPIC addresses various elements that influence an athlete’s career, such as physical preparation, nutrition, rehabilitation, sports psychology and traumatology, with the aim of providing tools for optimal performance.
In a context where continental basketball is in the final stretch towards the Final Four in Berlin, concern for the health of the players is high due to the saturation of the calendar, especially in a year marked by events such as the World Cup and the next Olympic Games in Paris.
Within the framework of the congress, two professors from TecnoCampus give workshops and conferences that address fundamental aspects for the comprehensive development of basketball players. Specifically, Mar Rovira, member of the ELPA Performance Advisory Council and professor at the Tecnocampus, presents a presentation titled “Mental health of basketball players: a comprehensive framework to respond to the needs of the athlete.” In this talk, self-management tools and where to get information about assistance are presented, focusing on the importance of mental health in sports performance.
On the other hand, Víctor Illera offers a workshop titled “Resistance training with a shuttlecock for basketball players,” which shows how to integrate shuttlecock training into the athletic development of players, putting theory into practice on the court.
The Congress has the participation of representatives of the Euroleague, the NBA Players Union, teams such as Barça, Efes of Istanbul, Olimpia of Milan and Baskonia, as well as academics from institutions such as the University of Zagreb, the INEFC, the UTAD of Portugal and the TecnoCampus of Mataró.
“The idea is to present the latest trends in sports performance and bring them closer to anyone who may be interested,” highlights Nachbar.
With around 400 registered between in-person and online attendees, Mataró hosts this event after last year’s edition in Césena, Italy.
The mayor of Mataró, David Bote, offered a reception to the organizers of the Congress at the Nau Gaudí, one of the most emblematic buildings in the city.
