The new M2 Coupé is the concentrated version of the BMW M models. With a 460 PS in-line six-cylinder engine, an optional six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, the second generation of this radical sports car promises limitless driving pleasure.
This exceptional car continues with a lineage of compact and ultra-sports models that began in 1973 with the arrival of the BMW 2002 turbo and is also based on the success of its predecessor, which reached sales of close to 60,000 units worldwide, between 2015 and 2022.
Available from 91,250 euros, the new BMW M2 Coupé shows a very athletic appearance, thanks to its compact dimensions, its powerful proportions and the characteristic design cues of the M division of the Bavarian brand. Its exterior length (4.58 m) is 214 mm shorter than a BMW M4 Coupé and its wheelbase is 110 mm shorter. In addition, the width of the vehicle (1.88 m) and of the tracks (2.74 m) far exceeds the figures for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.
The front image is presided over by a large frameless BMW kidney grille, with its bars arranged horizontally, which is combined with a lower air intake divided into three sections with rectangular contours. The design has been carried out respecting technical requirements related to cooling and aerodynamics, while the flared side skirts and muscular wheel arches are key to the car’s profile.
At the rear, specific details can be seen such as the lip that shapes the spoiler, the vertically arranged reflectors, the lower bumper molding and the two pairs of exhaust outlets. The paint offering includes solid Zandvoort Blue and metallic Toronto Red, exclusive to the model. As an option, there is an M carbon fiber roof that reduces the weight of the vehicle by 6 kg.
The engine of the new BMW M2 Coupé is a three-liter inline six-cylinder block with M TwinPower Turbo technology. It develops a power of 460 CV at 6,250 rpm and a torque of 550 Nm, between 2,650 and 5,870 rpm. The sound is especially exciting thanks to the M-specific exhaust system with electronically controlled valves.
Available power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox with Drivelogic, a feature that allows a choice of three settings. Shifts are extremely quick and it has the ability to downshift several times until you’re in the right gear. BMW offers the option of a six-speed manual gearbox, perfect for those who want maximum interaction between car and driver.
The BMW M2 Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds with the automatic transmission and in 4.3 seconds, in case of having a manual transmission. It is capable of going from 0 to 200 km/h in 13.5 seconds (14.3 seconds with manual transmission). Top speed is 250 km/h and can be increased to 285 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package. The approved consumption starts from 9.7 liters per 100 km, with CO2 emissions from 218 g/km.
Rear-wheel drive is a key ingredient for sporty driving purists, helping the driver to perform controlled drifts. In this sense, M traction control allows you to carefully explore the limits of the car’s performance thanks to ten levels of intervention, responsible for controlling wheel slip.
Another fundamental element for exciting and dynamic driving is the active M differential present on the rear axle, capable of generating a locking effect of up to 100%, if necessary. This optimizes traction on roads with irregular grip and improves power delivery when exiting curves.
The new BMW M2 Coupé has compact dimensions, a short wheelbase and balanced weight distribution. Dynamic agility and precision also benefit from the excellent torsional rigidity of the body structure and added chassis mounts.
The suspension axles have an M-specific setup that includes M adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M Servotronic steering with variable assistance, DSC system with M Dynamic mode and M Compound brakes. The braking system offers the driver two pedal feel settings and the tires are 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear. Additionally, there is the option of mounting circuit tires.
The cockpit is driver-focused and features M-specific gauges, controls and options, as well as the BMW curved screen. The information is reflected on a 12.3-inch screen located in front of the driver, accompanied by another 14.9-inch central screen. The optional BMW Head up Display also includes M-specific information.
The BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant are part of the latest generation of BMW iDrive, based on the BMW ID8 operating system, designed for intuitive driver-vehicle interaction. This system is customizable, allows the integration of mobile phones and 5G connectivity is available.
The front seats feature a specific design with Sensatec/Alcantara surfaces. As an option, it is possible to opt for M sports seats with integrated headrests and perforated leather surfaces. Another more advanced option is the M carbon fiber bucket seats that reduce the weight of the vehicle by 10.8 kg.
Three-zone automatic climate control, the BMW Maps navigation system, the Setup button and MDrive Professional, ambient lighting or a hi-fi speaker system are also standard features. In terms of safety, the M2 Coupé is equipped with automated driving and parking systems and options such as Driving Assistant, cruise control with stop function
The Setup button allows direct access to settings for the engine, chassis, steering, braking systems, M traction control and gear shift assistant (if manual). The M Mode button can be used to adjust the level of intrusiveness of the assistance system, the contents of the screens, as well as choosing between Road, Sport and Track driving modes.
