When we travel with a child in the car, we want it to be as safe as possible. Child seats or the child restraint system (CRS) reduce damage to children in the event of an accident. According to the DGT “up to 135 centimeters in height, it is mandatory to always travel with a child restraint system adapted to their weight and size.” Of course, child seats must be installed correctly in the rear seats of the vehicle. If you have questions about how to fit the child seat in your car, a video from the Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia (RACC) explains it in detail in less than a minute.

Before proceeding to install the child seat, you should check that it contains the i-Size approval label required by current regulations. It is an orange label that identifies the child restraint system. It contains specific CRS data: from its approval number, the serial number to indicating the height and weight of the child to whom the seat corresponds.

Once you have verified that it contains the approval label, we must know if our vehicle has ISOFIX, that is, the system for anchoring the seat to the seat. As stated by the RACC, if our vehicle has the ISOFIX system, the seat must also have ISOFIX.

Next, the seat must be attached to the rear seat. As? Extracting the ISOFIX system to the maximum. Then, face the ISOFIX system to the anchor points on the seat until you hear a “click”. Once it is in place, adjust the ISOFIX to fix the seat to the seat. Finally, take the seat belt and fix the seat according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia recommends placing the child restraint system in the right rear seat.

The DGT recommends that children do not wear warm clothing “that prevents the belt from fitting as closely as possible to their body.” It also advises adapting both the vehicle’s seat belt and the harness depending on the height of the child and not changing the seat prematurely. In other words, it is advisable to wait until the child has the corresponding height for each type of seat, so we can make sure that the CRS offers the necessary protection.
