Last year, the average price of new cars rose 2%. Inflation has meant that only five of the 24 brands analyzed by the specialized comparator Carwow have lowered prices in the last year. On the other hand, others such as Mazda or Seat increased sales prices to dealers by more than 4.5%.
Within this general upward trend in the automobile market, Mazda is the brand that has become most expensive, with an increase of 5.1%. The average price of the Japanese manufacturer’s vehicles was 39,459 euros in January, 2,000 euros more than a year ago. Similarly, Seat recorded an increase of 4.5% to reach a current average price of 34,034 euros.
BMW and Kia are two of the manufacturers that have been most stable throughout 2023. The German manufacturer has a current average price of 71,401 euros (1.7%) and the South Korean brand stands at 37,865 euros, a 1, 2% more than a year ago.
Of the 24 brands studied by Carwow, only five registered a decrease in their prices. The first is Tesla, with an average reduction of 12,804 euros, 14.6% less than in 2023. Far from that great reduction that has left the average price of a Tesla at 74,637 euros, we find the Italian Fiat, with a decrease of 3.3% of prices.
Cupra lowered prices by 2.3%, Renault, by 0.7% and Peugeot, by 0.6%. In the latter case, the average price is 38,825 euros.
Carwow points out that the automobile market is experiencing a moment of uncertainty and that the increase in the cost of new cars and financing is explained by factors such as inflation, the slow recovery after the chip supply crisis and the rise in interest rates. .
It also underlines the promotion of sustainable forms of mobility and, specifically, the sales of hybrid and electric vehicles.
