When a collectible piece is unique in the world and is put up for sale, there is no doubt that its value will not be exactly low. And if, on top of that, that piece is an Aston Martin car with almost 70 years of history, it is evident that acquiring it will involve a considerable outlay. Well, that is what has happened with the only DB2/4 Coupe by Bertone that exists on the planet, which has just been sold for one million euros.

And the fact is that only seven Aston Martin DB2/4 units with Bertone bodywork were manufactured, of which only the one you can see in the photographs was produced in coupe configuration. Among the numerous orders received by the prestigious Italian coachbuilder were these seven vehicles from the British brand, which did not come off a conventional assembly line, but were exclusive units with some differences between them.

The DB2/4 Coupe by Bertone was ordered during the summer of 1954 for a Parisian customer, to whom it was delivered the first week of January 1955. Initially, it was planned to produce a limited series of examples, but finally from Aston Martin decided to abandon this idea. It should be noted that, initially, the car was white, but later it was painted the blue color it looks today.

Due to its exclusivity, the car was displayed on the Bertone stand at the Turin Motor Shows in 1957 and 1958. Almost two decades later, in 1976, the car was acquired by an American owner and, since then, has remained in the North American country changing hands on several occasions.

During the subsequent decades, this very special Aston Martin has received various restorations that have allowed it to reach us today in a perfect state of conservation. Some of the parts, such as the front bumper and the rear lights, had been replaced over time, but during the last restoration, identical ones were made so that it could recover the original appearance it had when it was manufactured in 1954.

The 140 HP 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine was recently restored and received various mechanical improvements, such as an optimized lubrication system. One of the most recent public appearances of the car took place at this year’s prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held annually in California.

The last time the exclusive Aston Martin was shown was during the auction organized by RM Sotheby’s in New York, where its new owner spent an amount close to one million euros to obtain it. The acquisition included documentary and graphic information about the latest and most extensive restorations carried out on the vehicle.
