On February 26, during the Geneva Motor Show, the new Renault 5 was unveiled worldwide, returning to the market in the form of an electric car, although retaining the aesthetic essence of the iconic original 1972 model. Although Reservations cannot be formalized until next May (the first deliveries will take place after the summer), the brand already has more than 50,000 people on a waiting list to purchase a copy. This was stated by the CEO of Renault, Fabrice Cambolive, in an interview with Automotive News Europe.

The diamond signature offers the possibility of purchasing a priority access pass – called R5 R Pass – to purchase the car before others and receive it first. It should be noted that, after 14 days, the 150 euros that must be paid to enjoy this advantage will not be refunded nor will they be deducted from the price of the vehicle, which will cost from around 25,000 euros. This pass also gives the privilege of seeing the car in person beforehand and a 1/43 scale miniature of the new model.

The first units to be delivered of the Renault 5 E-Tech correspond to the version with a 52 kWh battery, which can travel up to 400 kilometers on a charge. This variant is combined with a 110 kW electric motor (equivalent to 150 HP), which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds and recover from 80 to 120 km/h in less than 7 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 150 km/h.

There will also be other mechanical alternatives, 70 kW (95 HP) and 90 kW (120 HP), which are combined with a 40 kWh battery (offers a range of about 300 km). The two most powerful versions of the range will be available with an 11 kW bidirectional AC charger, which will allow V2L (vehicle-to-load) functions to connect a device to the car battery and V2G (vehicle-to-load) functions. -grid) to return electricity to the grid and save money on home charging. The 70 kW variant will only have a conventional 11 kW charger and will not be able to connect to fast outlets.

At a design level, the new R-5 E-Tech inherits features that are reminiscent of the original model. For example, the rear vertical lights are inspired by those of the legendary SuperCinco, while at the front the square light signature has been maintained with rounded edges at the ends of the bumper, the same place where the Renault 5 Turbo and also the Copa Turbo had The fog lights inside, the seats have a shape directly inspired by the R-5 Turbo, with its H-shaped decorative structure typical of the 70s and 80s.

The car is smaller than some of its rivals and this is noticeable in the habitability of the rear seats. The trunk, for its part, has a loading capacity of 326 liters, which can be expanded by folding the backrest of the rear bumper.
