Ford’s Electrified Vehicle Sales Surge in May 2024

Ford’s electric and hybrid vehicle sales saw a significant increase in May 2024 compared to the same month last year. The Mustang Mach-E saw the most significant year-to-date sales increase (+89%) followed closely by the Maverick (+85%).

Ford reported strong growth for electrified vehicles through May 2024. Compared to last year, both EVs and hybrids saw significant increases: EV sales nearly doubled, surging by 87.8%, while hybrids rose by 50.9%. However, despite the impressive gains, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles remain the dominant force in terms of overall sales volume.

Overall, Ford’s U.S. sales for the first five months of 2024 increased by 5.6% compared to the same period in 2023, with a total of 877,685 units delivered. While gas-powered vehicles still hold the majority share of sales at 87.3%, electrified options are gaining ground with hybrids now holding an 8.4% market share and electric vehicles a 4.3% share.

In terms of individual model sales, the most impressive increase year-to-date was recorded by the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which sold 88.7% more units compared to last year totaling at 18,737. The F-150 Lightning truck and the E-Transit van also saw impressive sales growth.

While Ford’s electrified vehicle sales are on the rise, traditional gasoline-powered vehicles still dominate the market. Trucks and SUVs remain the preferred choice for consumers, with cars representing a shrinking segment. Despite some production issues affecting certain models, Ford continues to show strong overall sales growth in the U.S. market.

In conclusion, Ford’s electrified vehicle sales have seen a significant surge in May 2024, with the Mustang Mach-E and Maverick leading the way. With a focus on expanding their electric offerings, Ford is making strides towards a more sustainable future in the automotive industry.
