A hearse with an (empty) coffin has sowed discord among the residents of Vélez-Málaga, as there are those who complain that this vehicle has been parked near their homes since Valentine’s Day.
“I don’t want it on the street. I have spoken to the police but they told me that the car is like any other and it could be there,” Aurelio, a neighbor who lives just 30 meters from the woman’s house, told EFE.
The man has been complaining about the situation for weeks and, even though he has informed the Local Police, the mayor and a councilor of the presence of the hearse, “no one is putting things in order.”
This peculiar vehicle, a burgundy-colored Renault 21 with a vintage appearance and which apparently belonged to a funeral home, has been parked with an empty coffin inside since February 14 on the central La Música street in this Malaga municipality of about 85,000 inhabitants.
“On the 14th he parked it at my door. I told him to remove it because my husband is sick and the truth is that it is not very pleasant to have the car with the box of dead there all night,” lamented Teresa, who lives at the end of the street, and has criticized that there are not more neighbors “coming forward.”
Another neighbor stressed that some of the residents in the area have serious illnesses and others have suffered recent losses, so it is “evident” that the presence of the car is very disturbing to them.
Both the owner of the vehicle and her boyfriend have declined to speak with EFE and both have been very upset by the presence of the media.
According to another resident, the woman explained to them that her boyfriend gave her the car for Valentine’s Day because she needs it to make horror short films. “I don’t know if he made the video, I haven’t seen anything, but it seems that he has said that she is going to use it to go to Mercadona,” she added.
The situation outrages another neighbor, who claims that the owner has even said that she is going to buy floral wreaths to bother them more. From her point of view, she is simply looking to “become famous.”
Although there are neighbors who are not bothered by the presence of the vehicle, others have gone to the institutions to ask them to remove the hearse from the street.
Sources from the Vélez-Málaga City Council have confirmed to EFE that the Local Police have come on several occasions to speak with the owner and have told her that having that car on public roads is not “the most ideal thing.”
But despite the insistence of the neighbors, these same sources have explained that there is no municipal regulation that prevents the car from being parked on public roads, so, as another citizen has pointed out, the solution “perhaps” involves try to reach an agreement with the owner of this peculiar vehicle.
