Formula 1 and collecting lovers are rubbing their hands. One of the most legendary cars will soon go up for auction: the Ferrari 312 T4. This car, which belongs to the personal collection of former driver Jody Scheckter, will be one of the cars that RM Sotheby’s will auction in Monaco on the occasion of the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

What makes this vehicle even more special is its connection with Enzo Ferrari, since it was the last car from the Prancing Horse team to win a world drivers’ championship before the death of the brand’s founder. It is expected that between 5.25 and 6.5 million euros will be paid for him.

The auction of the Ferrari 312 T4 is generating a lot of excitement for several reasons. Firstly, this car marked the end of a golden era for Ferrari in Formula 1, being the team’s last car to win a world drivers’ championship while Enzo Ferrari was still alive.

As if this were not enough, this model, designed by the legendary Mauro Foghieri, stands out for being the first Ferrari with full ground effect, an innovation that gave it a very important competitive advantage in its time. Under its hood, it houses a powerful 3.0-liter 12-cylinder boxer engine.

The Ferrari 312 T4 is not only recognized for its advanced design and technology for the time, but also for its racing history. Jody Scheckter, the only South African F1 world champion, drove this car to victory three times during the 1979 season: in the Belgian, Monaco and Italian Grands Prix. From then on, the team would enter a drought that only Michael Schumacher could end.

The Jody Scheckter collection, which includes this and twelve other racing vehicles, will be offered in its entirety, hoping to reach a combined figure of up to 21 million euros. All the cars are in perfect condition despite their age.

The Ferrari 312 T4, in particular, has remained completely original since leaving Maranello and has only been driven by Scheckter, including a 2019 appearance during the Monza Grand Prix weekend at a classic car event.
