Living and getting around in a big city is an increasingly demanding challenge for its inhabitants due to traffic congestion. However, new and original personal mobility alternatives for urban journeys continue to appear. Electromobility now reaches a new segment: that of pedestrians.

With the streets full of vehicles of all types and possible delays in public transportation, walking is sometimes the most efficient and safest way to get from one point to another on time. However, this obviously requires a longer time. That is why the French company Rollkers wanted to lighten the way pedestrians walk thanks to a pair of fun portable devices similar to skates that allow them to move twice as fast as at a standard pace.

These small electrical devices are placed under the shoes and, although they look similar to a pair of skates, they do not roll but rather imitate the operation of moving walkways at airports or shopping centers. The Rollkers transfer this technology to footwear to turn any sidewalk into a fast-moving walkway without hardly modifying the person’s footprint.

This revolutionary mobility solution fits all shoe sizes, as it has an open design, with different types of grip. The Rollkers are activated with a small motor that powers the walk: and with them you don’t slide, you simply walk faster.

According to the manufacturer, they can help you walk twice as fast as you would without motor assistance, reaching a maximum speed of 11.2 km/h. Another of their advantages is their intuitive operation, since they do not require any type of prior learning to use them.

Integrated sensors adjust the motor speed to the person’s stride at all times. This means that if you walk faster, the motor assistance is activated, and stops when the pedestrian stops walking. The latter is very useful when climbing stairs or entering public transport.

Each of the two devices (left and right) are synchronized with each other and have Tracks enhanced stability technology to prevent falls. In addition, they are controlled remotely so that assistance can be deactivated if necessary and allow natural movement of the feet.

They can be easily transported in a backpack and are powered by a lithium-ion battery with a range of 4 km or 30 minutes of walking. This mobility solution is designed, above all, to become the ideal complement for those who travel daily by public transport and want to save time on foot.

It is a healthy and environmentally friendly alternative with a unique approach to urban mobility. In the video that accompanies this article you can see how Rollkers work.
