With the victory obtained in the 100th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ferrari has made history. The vehicle with the number 51, its Hypercar driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi, has been able to prevail over a strong competition formed by the powerful squads of manufacturers such as Toyota, Cadillac, Porsche and Peugeot. For equality and the existing struggle, 2023 has been the closest and most exciting edition of the last decades.
However, Le Mans would not be Le Mans without the GTE, the “lower power” vehicles that are responsible for completing the registration for the event and that allow the starting grid to be very large. The victory in the GTE Am category is usually very competitive and is always decided by small details. On this occasion, it was a highly desirable victory due to the fact that it coincided with the centenary of the event. In addition, it was the last edition of this category, which in 2024 will be replaced by the so-called GT3, with more evolved and powerful cars.
In this 2023 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, five models have been present in the GTE Am category. They are vehicles that, unlike Hypercars and LMP2s, have bodies recognizable by the general public, since they are cars that are sold. Let’s find out a little more about these sports radicals, capable of competing without complexes in the best race in the world.
