The differences have again blocked the renewal of the board of directors of Fira de Barcelona. Anna Navarro, known in the business world as Anna Schlegel, has not received sufficient support today at the meeting of the General Council, in which Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce are represented in equal parts.

On the other hand, the appointment of Laura Carnicero, vice president of human resources at Seat, was supported, which was unanimous.

Anna Navarro was the first name promoted from the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, chaired by Mònica Roca, to fill one of the two positions that Pedro Fonana and Kim Faura have vacated after having exhausted the possibilities of renewing their mandate. After months of negotiations, a consensus was obtained between the administrations, which included the appointment of Navarro and also of Laura Carnicero.

Today, however, the consensus has been truncated by dividing the vote of the four City Council representatives who have attended the meeting. Two of them, the mayoress Ada Colau and Ferran Mascarell voted in favor of Navarro. But the other two, Laia Bonet and Núria Marín, have abstained.

It remains to be seen now whether or not the vacant position will be filled and how it will be addressed.

Anna Navarro, who uses the professional name of Anna Schlegel, has a degree in English and German Philology from the UB. Currently, she is vice president of Procore, a California company dedicated to the development of construction management programs. She is also the chief executive of the NGO Women in Technology. Before joining Procore Technologies, she worked at Cisco Systems, Xerox, VMware, VeriSign and NetApp. In 2020 she was chosen as the most influential woman in the world of technology and in 2021 she received the Creu de Sant Jordi from the Generalitat.
