In Spain, to drive a motor vehicle on public roads it is essential to have a driving license. To achieve this, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) requires demonstrating a track of knowledge that may vary depending on the type of license required for each vehicle.
Thus, aspiring drivers must face at least one theoretical and one practical exam. In the case of the car license (B), they must complete a 30-question test and then a driving test in real traffic. To obtain other permits, such as motorcycle (A1, A2, A), it is also required to pass a closed circuit test. On the other hand, in all cases it is necessary to obtain a medical certificate that demonstrates that the person has the necessary physical and psychological abilities to drive.
The process can be expensive, both for the time and for the money invested, since the duration and the financial amount that must be paid depend on the skills and preparation of each applicant. In addition, driving schools have long denounced the lack of DGT examiners, a situation that causes waiting lines of up to 4 months to take the practical exam.
However, applicants do not always have the patience or predisposition required to complete the entire process legally; Sometimes there are those who try to skip the procedure to get a driver’s license without having to face the different tests. In this context, the Traffic Agency has warned through its social networks of a new scam circulating on the internet. And in this case it has nothing to do with false fines.
It is an offer to buy a driver’s license without having to take an exam. In the example shown from a WhatsApp conversation, the scammer asks the victim what kind of license she wants to get and if she knows how to drive. She is, she replies that she wants the B permit and that she does know how to drive.
Then, the scammer explains to the victim that the price of the card is 653 euros and that they will not have to complete any theoretical or practical exam. He explains to her that in order to process her file, he must send her personal information that will supposedly be registered in the DGT database, for which he asks her to pay 175 euros.
However, Traffic calls for “a lot of attention to the offers that circulate on the Internet and that offer you, upon payment, to obtain the card without passing any exam.” Thus it is remembered that “to obtain a driving license it is always necessary to pass a theoretical and a practical exam”, so citizens who fall into this type of trap will lose the money they pay.
However, there are other common resources that are used in our country to cheat when it comes to getting the card. Every year, the police detect cases in which some people attend the theoretical exam with the intention of cheating. At the beginning of March, the Civil Guard of Cádiz discovered two people red-handed when they were trying to carry out this fraud using mobile phones and bluetooth receivers that sent an audio signal to a small headset.
Through these systems, the people being examined communicate with another who is outside the room and who tells them the correct answers to each question. This is a common practice by mafias that operate in Spain, which usually help foreign citizens who do not speak our language to get the card illegally.
Another of the most popular fraudulent methods that police officers detect the most is impersonating another person, either to obtain a driving license or to recover license points.
Since March 2022, when the new Traffic Law came into force, any type of fraudulent practice of this nature is considered a very serious offense and is punishable by a fine of 500 euros. Likewise, the applicant may not retake the test within a period of 6 months. In some cases, it can even lead to criminal convictions.
