The DGT indicates which electric scooter models are already certified to circulate beyond 2027

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) continues in its efforts to improve the regulation around Personal Mobility Vehicles (VMP) and guarantee the safety of its users. One of the main measures is the one established in the Resolution of January 12, 2022, in which it was specified that electric scooters need a certificate to circulate. This regulation will come into force on January 22, 2024. Therefore, the DGT urges users to purchase a VMP model that is certified. Otherwise, those who have an electric scooter without this certificate will only be able to circulate with it until January 22, 2027. After this date, only models with a VMP Certificate will be able to do so.

However, until now it remained to be known in detail which models of Personal Mobility Vehicles are part of the list certified by the DGT itself. However, this information has recently been published on its official website, where all the necessary details are specified.

VMPs are single-seater vehicles that operate using a propulsion system with electric motors, which allows them to travel at a speed of between 6 and 25 kilometers per hour, as permitted by the DGT. These are just some of the characteristics that must be met so that everything is in order, which are reflected in those models that have a circulation certificate.

The DGT has made public the list of all models of Personal Mobility Vehicles that have a certification that guarantees their safety. IDIADA Automotive Technology S.A., located in Tarragona, and TÜV Rheinland Italia S.r.l., in Milan (Italy), have been the two laboratories authorized for this VMP certification.

The listing has the make and model of the particular electric scooter and, then, a number starting with “A” or “B” that represents the VMP certificate.
