During May, a total of 92,025 new passenger cars and SUVs were registered in Spain, which represents an increase of 8.27% compared to the same month in 2022. This is the fifth consecutive month that the market has registered growth. According to data provided by industry associations (Anfac, Faconauto and Ganvam), between January 1 and May 31, 404,337 copies have been sold, 26.9% more than in the same period last year, although sales are still 28% below what they were in 2019, before the pandemic.

If we focus on the most popular models during May, it should be noted that the Dacia Sandero was the best seller (2,813 units), followed by the Renault Clio (2,397), the Peugeot 208 (2,180), the Seat Arona (1,989), the Toyota Corolla (1,980), the MG ZS (1,932), the Opel Corsa (1,857), the Kia Sportage (1,830), the Hyundai Tucson (1,772) and the Toyota Yaris Cross (1,747).

In this top 10 there is a car that deserves to be highlighted. We refer to the ZS, as it is the first Chinese car to enter the highest positions in the commercial ranking. It is a cheap compact SUV, whose official starting price is around 17,000 euros. Said rate corresponds to the 106 CV 1.5 VTI-tech version with a 5-speed manual transmission. The benefits of this variant are modest: it reaches a top speed of 175 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds.

The mechanical range also has another internal combustion engine, the 111 hp 1.0T-GDI with manual or automatic transmission, both with 6 speeds. In this case the tip rises to 180 km/h. Units with manual transmission reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 11.2 seconds, while automatics need 12.4 seconds.

Also, the brand offers an electric variant. The ZS EV is powered by a 130 kW motor and has a range that can reach 440 km. Its price starts at 33,690 euros, not counting discounts such as those applicable to the Moves III plan.

The appearance of this model on the best-seller list in Spain is further confirmation that Chinese brands are penetrating our market with force. In fact, it could already be verified in the recently held edition of the Automobile Barcelona show, where there was a great presence and deployment of these Asian firms.
